Hindi

Hindi is the most widely spoken language in Asia, with 50 million native speakers in India. Hindi which is written in the Devanagri script and is based on a dialect of Delhi named khadiboli is also the official language of India. Vernacular dialects of the language are spoken all over the country. Standardized Hindi is taught to children in schools while 9 out of 28 states and 3 Union Territories have excepted Hindi as their official language. The language draws its vocabulary from the ancient Sanskrit language.

The Hindi standard, from which much of the Persian, Arabic and English vocabulary has been purged and replaced by tatsam words, is called Shuddha Hindi (pure Hindi), and is viewed as a more prestigious dialect over other more colloquial forms of Hindi.
